I know, Mom! I'm gonna tell them!
My mother would have you know that this recipe was originally one of her own. At some point before my time, my Aunt managed to take the recipe, change it, and, ultimately, better it (sorry, Mom). Since then, at family gatherings of all kinds, Auntie Jill's cookies have been a recurrent component of the treat table.
After growing up and moving away, Jilly's sugar cookies were notably absent from my life (as well as Jill herself, and Mom, and all the rest of the Family). I began making these cookies for work functions, holiday cookie exchanges, friends' birthdays, and any other time I could find a reasonable excuse. Although they are called Auntie Jill's cookies, they now are a reminder for me of all of my family members, with whom I am incredibly close. Apart from reminding me of home and family, the other great thing about these cookies is - hello - they taste really darn good. After corroborating their deliciousness with friends, co-workers, and even people I barely know, I've decided to make them a 'real thing' by, um, selling them? Well, that's the goal!
We're Softies. I've come across a few sugar cookies recipes in my day, and many of them have tempted me with their structure and stability. Sugar cookies with perfectly formed edges and less breakability are certainly desirable if you're mainly interested in appearances. But at Auntie Jill's we try to balance the inside with the outside, and I've never found a perfectly formed sugar cookie that wasn't a little lacking in the taste and texture department. That's why Auntie Jill's Sugar Cookies have remained soft, unruly, and sooo yummy. Dress them up or dress them down, Auntie Jill's sugar cookies may not be an culinary adventure, but they never fail to satisfy.
Please look over my sugar cookie portfolio and other information in the following several posts. I will continually update this blog with new pictures of cookies, new information about the cookies.
Enjoy!
